Harmony. Harmony is the first word that comes to mind when I think of the Eolian Islands in Sicily. Harmony between man and nature. Harmony with oneself. Harmony with others. Salina (the Eolian island where we stayed & “Il Postino” was shot) exhales serenity, inspires quietude, dictates equanimity. Meeting the people of Salina, one gets the distinct feeling that these people have found true wealth (in a literal sense too! Property prices on the island have increased tenfold in the last 10 years!) and “urbanites” such as myself can not but wonder whether somewhere amidst the “mind-the-gap”, ipods and Big-Brother, they are missing the point entirely, searching for more than will ever make them happy, loosing touch with themselves.
